This page describes what happens to your data when you use this website, and how the KinHolo app measures its own use. What your household keeps in the app, such as lists, tasks and budgets, is never sold, never used for advertising and never included in that measurement.
Who is responsible
The controller for this website is KinHolo, whose details are on the imprint. Questions and requests about your data go to privacy@kinholo.com.
What we collect, and why
Visiting the site
The pages are static files. The server that delivers them keeps a short-lived technical log of requests (the address requested, the time, the response code, and the connection’s IP address) so that faults and abuse can be diagnosed. Those logs are kept for no more than fourteen days. This site sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties: the fonts are served from this domain, and there are no advertising or social-media scripts.
The one thing the site keeps in your browser is a note, for as long as the tab stays open, of whether the get-the-app invitation has already been shown, closed or answered, so that it does not keep coming back. It sits in the tab’s session storage, says nothing about who you are, is never sent to us and is gone when you close the tab.
We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, the measurement built into the service that hosts this site. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device. Each visit is counted under a hash made from the request that is discarded within a day, so the count cannot follow you across sites or from one day to the next. What we see is aggregate: how many visits, which pages, which countries and which kinds of device. Never who.
Asking for the app
When you ask for the app we store what you enter: your name, email address, and, if you give them, where you are, your household size, the modules you chose and your message. We also note the language you used the site in, so that we can write to you in it. We use this to send you the app: one email with your link, and another only if you ask again, never more than one in fifteen minutes. If you joined our waitlist before launch, we send you the same link once. The email also suggests passing our link on to others who might want KinHolo. We send no marketing emails. Your answers help us decide which modules to build next. The legal basis is your consent, given when you submit the form. We keep your request until you ask us to delete it. For each email we send you, we also keep a short record: when it went, from which of our addresses, its subject and its technical message ID, so that a later email can answer it. The record goes when your request does.
The monthly letter
Subscribing sends one confirmation email to the address you gave; nothing else is sent until you open the link in it. Once confirmed, we send at most one letter a month, and every letter carries a link to leave. We store your address, the language you subscribed in, when you subscribed and when you confirmed. Unconfirmed addresses are deleted after 48 hours.
Email you send us
If you write to one of our addresses, we keep the correspondence for as long as it takes to deal with it, and for up to a year afterwards in case it continues.
Improving the app
The KinHolo app, at app.kinholo.com, can show us how it is used, so that we can find what is slow, confusing or broken and fix it. It does this only if you allow it.
The first time you use the app on a device, it asks whether you would like to help improve KinHolo. If you allow it, the app shares:
- which screens you open and what you do there, such as “item added” or “task completed”, but never what the item or the task is;
- how quickly screens load, which requests are slow or fail, and any errors;
- where taps land, and taps that do nothing;
- screen recordings in which every word, every number and everything you type is replaced by asterisks, and pictures are blocked.
These are linked to a random identifier for your account, with your role, your language and your household’s identifier. Never your name, email address or phone number, and never anything your family writes. IP addresses are discarded.
If you choose “No thanks”, or before you have chosen, the app shares only anonymous counts of screens and actions, stores nothing on your device and records nothing, so nothing it shares can be linked to you.
You can change your answer at any time under Settings → Privacy → Help improve KinHolo. Signing out clears it, so the next person to use the same device is asked for themselves.
We use PostHog for this. PostHog processes the data for us on its EU cloud, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, under a data-processing agreement. Usage events are kept for one year and screen recordings for 30 days, then deleted. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, and § 25(1) TDDDG for anything stored on your device).
Who else sees it
Nobody, other than the providers we need to run the site: the hosting provider that runs the server, the email provider that delivers our messages, and, for the app and only with your consent, PostHog, as described above. Each acts on our instructions under a data-processing agreement, and none may use your data for anything of its own. We do not sell, rent or trade data, we do not profile you, and we show no advertising.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you may ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for a copy in a portable form, object to our using it, or withdraw consent you gave earlier. Write to privacy@kinholo.com and we will answer within a month. You also have the right to complain to a data-protection authority; in Germany that is the authority of the state where we are based, listed on the imprint.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Nothing we do with data collected under an earlier version will be widened without asking you first.
